About Lapis
We are drawn to lapis for its saturated blue and the natural markings that make one piece of rough unlike the next. Each stone is cut in our Santa Cruz studio with the color, surface and original material in mind.
Set against our hand-fabricated mixed metals, lapis brings a dense, elemental field of color to rings, earrings and pendants. Its pattern and tonal variation remain visible, so no two Variance pieces resolve in quite the same way. Explore its longer story in our Lapis mythology article.

Ethical Gemstones
We use Kimberly Process certified diamonds and traceable colored gems from trusted, family-run sources.
Recycled Precious Metals
Most of our precious metals are recycled, but not all. Our unique handmade process lends itself to less waste and less toxicity.
Respect for the Rough
All our colored gemstones are cut from rough stones. We highlight the rough beauty of each stone with a focus on color variation, rough formation and natural textures.
